PC Stuttering when vsync is off

AndeSandwich

As the title says, if I have vsync off in games, the game starts stuttering, and it is not screen tearing. If I turn on vsync then the game suddenly runs butter smooth. Does anyone know why this happens?

Specs:

CPU: I7-7700k overclocked to 4.8 GHZ

GPU: GTX 1080Ti Aorus Xtreme

RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000 MHZ

MOBO: MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon

Depends on the situation, but generally when removing the V-sync your system will run as fast as it can. Meaning if the CPU is the predominant factor determining performance, the rendethread will sometimes stall and cause stutters.

You can alleviate this with implementing a framecap.
