powerline adapter not working

I just got the TP-Link AV600 ()TL-PA4010 starter kit. I plug it in and theres a connection when I test the speeds Im only getting the speeds that I should get on my 2.4Ghz and not my 5G I should be getting 300Mbs down and 30 up but my speedtest is only giving 50/15. is there a way to get my powerline adapter to give me my correct speeds?

How is everything setup exactly? You say wireless, are you connected to an AP that's hanging off the powerline adapter? The powerline adapter only has a single 10/100Mbps Ethernet Port so you'll never get more than 100Mbps connected via ethernet off the adapter itself.

all ethernet. no AP... the main thing for me is just being able to get the 100 mbs even if it get capped by that. should I get an AP for this?

So everything is wired then? Are you just comparing the speeds against what you get via wireless on another device?

Powerline is a fickle beast and depending on a variety of factors such as age of the wires, distance, interference, etc. it can drastically cut down throughput.

everythings wired but the fact that I can only get 50 Mbs down and not above 150 which is what I was getting wirelessly on the same pc is annoying.

I've NEVER gotten the advertised speed on powerline adapters, even when plugged into the same outlet for testing, and they had really weird latency characteristics. It's kind of a dead technology now, IMO.

I only got it because I have to use Wi-Fi in our house but I still get high ping and low download speeds. Im just trying to find a way to fix that.

The only true solution is to run an Ethernet cable. Wi-fi is still the second best in most cases.

 

Failing that, if you happen to have co-ax to router-room and computer-room, there is a technology called MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) that I've had good luck with (full gigabit speeds), but it's a pretty niche solution.

Welcome to PowerLine. You will almost never get close to your actual speeds. Their performance is heavily influenced by the quality of the wiring in your house, the quality of the power to it, and how much power is being used across the same lines at the time you are using the adapter.
