Best storage options for iPad Pro?

Pretty much the title! The most budget-friendly option that I've seen so far would be to get a UHS-II supported card reader and then go for SanDisk's Extreme Pro SD cards with 128GB of storage and then get more when I need them, but I have a few doubts from reading reviews on that? First off, I've seen a horde of people claim their reader no longer works since iOS 13 and just isn't detected anymore, is this really the case? Second off, from what I've been able to scope out, people are only transferring video/photo files with the reader, is it not possible to just in general use File Manager and import/export any kind of file? 

 

Following up on that, what would be the best alternatives that don't cost half a GPU?
