Helped a friend yesterday install drivers on a used pc they bought.

Asus motherboard

Ryzen 1400

8gb ram

rx 580 with latest driver

bougbt Minecraft on g2a. When she tries to launch it, the pc shuts off and boots to the American megatrends screen. “Overclocked failed”.

Other games work fine like sims. No overclock. Any ideas?

A snap reboot like that tends to indicate a lack of power from the power supply. I'd borrow a newer/known good one, and try that, see what happens

I put it a new 600w evga psu.

I used ddu I’m safe mode to uninstall the drivers and reinstalled.

Says the gpu clock is at 3mhz.

Looked around online line and can’t find a solution to that.

Randomly blackscreens in windows.

Sounds like you have bad hardware.

Use MemTest86+ to test the RAM. Ensure the BIOS is reset to factory default.

Report back

Didn't run memtest yet.

Flashed the bios.

Installed an older driver for the gpu.

After a bit it was running minecraft, sims, h1z1 for a good while. Then I got another blackscreen after about an hour.

Restarted. Getting flashing screen and sometimes blackscreen.

Restarted. It changed the resolution in windows display settings without me doing it.

More flashing screen and blackscreening. Will look at it again tomorrow. About all I can handle tonight.

Try a different card and see if the memory isn't faulty. Also never buy from Craigslist again. Seriously, why people think that site is good is beyond me. 90% of tech offers there are damages or broken.

I sell gear on Craigslist / Kijiji all the time and my gear is MINT.

Having said that, it sounds like you found a 580 that spent some time down in the mines :( a lot of those old mining cards are seriously messed up these days. I've had a few come across my bench, and they're just such a waste :(

Thats a shame. I know in Canada, things like Reseller reviews have kept the idiots from selling crap gear. Facebook Marketplace also has a review system that works half decent. It keeps people mostly honest - or at least it gives the buyer proper info so they can make an informed decision.

I gave it back to my friend and his girl. He swapped his extra 580 into it and it’s doing the same thing.

We replaced the Psu.

They are saying there’s a blinking orange light on the motherboard.

Sorry for my noobery.

The guy guy they bought it from said he deleted the drive but didn’t format it.

Im thinking now it’s either the motherboard or software?
