ASUS Xonar DGX PCI-E Sound Card Review

Money
I own a DGX as well, though I do have a complaint about it. I'm not sure if the card is the issue here, but whenever I load up a game like Assassin's Creed 3, there is a soft static noise that kicks up in the background and never goes away. The sound is not present when I am doing anything other than gaming, like listening to music or YouTube.
turn off GX mode?

I have turned GX (or EAX) mode off, which helped the problem some, but the noise still persists. It might be from having a "dirty" power source, but then why would other applications work perfectly fine with no noise at all?

it could just be the game itself

I think that may be the case. I haven't done extensive troubleshooting yet as it is a relatively newly installed card. But hopefully I will find the cause of the issue and report back eventually.

The DGX is a great lower end sound card, the difference between it and on board sound is great.

I wanted to love my old Xonar card, but my 64bit Win 7 system was not having it. Some sort of weird issue with the c-media chipset that is used normally in this series of cards. Granted this issue is from 2010, and has probably been fixed, but I just don't ever want to use a c-media chip again.

Interested in the new series coming out from Soundblaster though, the Z series. Don't get me wrong here, I am a huge ASUS fan and love their products, but just had such a bad relationship with my old Xonar card, and nervous about trying them again if they still use c-media chipsets.

Im running 64 bit Windows 7 and I ran into no issues, so I believe that problem has been fixed.

Ive got a DGX, love it, except the setting reset on reboot. I just wrote a .bat that changed it and ran on startup. all working now.

nice review, I always thought that sound cards were something a little bit specialist but I got a Xonar DGX for my latest PC and I have to say the quality compared to the onboard audio is amazing, its such a noticable difference that I'm never going back!
