V8 Tube Chassis and Rear Wheel Drive Mini Cooper

I usually don't post my own YouTube videos around many places because I feel weird about promoting on forums (and hate opening myself up to the hate messages beyond YouTube comments), but this video I just have to share.  Karl Hacker built this car and I really feel it needs to be seen and appreciated by more people.

This is a "1968 Mini Cooper", that there isn't much "Mini" left of.  It is Rear Wheel Drive with a Tube Chassis and a Cadillac NorthStar V8 engine.  He built it himself in his mechanic shop with no formal background in engineering or chassis fabrication.  I spent yesterday with him and rode around in the car a bit, it is a heck of a machine.

Weight, V8 power and sound. 

 

A Northstar weighs 400lbs without accessories and makes a little over 300HP stock. Headers and custom tune that is pushed up a bit. Compare that to say a 4G63 inline 4 which weighs 350lbs and you aren't much more weight for similar power levels. 

 

He got a full donor Cadillac. I don't know what it cost him but I'd bet he got the entire car for what another motor would have cost. And the project started 10 years ago when a lot of the current options weren't as plentiful.

that engine has more displacement than the cars interior.

If I ditch a front and back wheel, then I'd have a Boss Hoss.
