"Boot device not found" error on hp laptop`s

My brother`s hp laptop`s both stopped working and when I turn them on it states "boot device not found"

one of the laptops stopped working last year the other stopped yesterday

please help!

Might be broken hard drive

yup but I can't open the laptop

although I doubt it as it is 2 separate computers from the same brand malfunctioning

and it always happens after they are turned off

Maybe he messed with the bios settings? Try to go into the bios and see if you can boot from there

In my experience this means that the storage used has become disconnected in some way. It could also be that they simply can't be read by the computer, suggesting either damage to the storage, or a problem with the BIOS.

 

This is also happening to my Dell laptop right now

I just took out the DVD drive and the SATA cable was unplugged

does your laptop have a toshiba hdd

I don't have access to my laptop sorry. I do know that it had a 500GB SSD. I don't know which one though, Task Manager said it was a Toshiba 128GB M.2 SSD, which is wrong.
