Is there any difference between SODIMM RAM sticks?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop RAM and I'm seeing all these options which range from 35€ to 60€ and I can't tell if there's any advantage to buying more expensive RAM (Specs are the same on paper freq., DDR4 etc.)?

lets not talk about differences in price, lets focus on what you need and what you have

tell us the model of laptop you have to know type of ram and speed it can support, if you know the exact brand of ram that also helps alot

There are two differences in laptop ram

1. Most important! low voltage and regular. Typically most modern laptops have low voltage chips and you will typically see a "L" in the model number or somewhere else on the existing chip in your laptop. Look for things like DDR4L or dfgdg-44-3L -ish model numbers

2. The actual speed of the ram. If you are getting all new ram just get whatever is the fastest supported and fits your budget. If you are adding to existing ram try to get the same speed or faster - if thats your only option.

Most memory companies have a tool on their sites to enter your laptop model number into and it should tell you what ram is compatible with it.

I would look for DDR4 PC4-19200 1.2V UNBUFFERED DDR4L, other types might be compatible, but this is what should 100% work. What are the specs of the RAM you are wanting to use?

why no dark mode?

crucial offer these modules for your laptop

https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/legion-y720-15ikb#MEMORYFilters

you can remove the 8gb module and put 2 16gbs modules if you want

if you want to keep the samsung module, buy another, this reference it seems Samsung M471A1K43CB1

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Notebook-Memory-M471A1K43CB1-CRC-DDR4-2400/dp/B06XPWJJPL/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=Samsung+M471A1K43CB1&qid=1564509311&s=gateway&sr=8-1

take a look at the module and see if it looks identical, if it is, should work dual channel

if you want you can sell the samsung module you have and buy a ram kit, 2x8 or 2x16 kit like that crucial i mentioned

al depends on where you live and how much you want to spend
