What fps should I be getting? 2070S. SotTR

orlando690

I have msi rtx2070S and a 3700x

I think my fps is lower than it should be.

Shadow of the tomb raider is set to 4k (dsr)

All settings as high as possible except texture filtering set to 2x antioatropic.

No dlss no Ray Ray tracing.

I get avg around 50 fps. That's from start of game to the point right as she discovers something is in Peru.

Afterburner didn't let me show fps it was greyd out so I downloaded some demo that doesn't scale so that tiny stuff is what I've had an issue looking at so I haven't even been paying attention to the game.

Try running some benchmarks and see how your system compares to similar configurations

Try userbenchmark? It's been a bit of a mess lately but should still be good to show how your pc performs compared to similar ones

Thanks I forgot about that.

I am benchmarking Unigine Heaven right now hopefully that tells me.

I dont see any other similar cards it seems to just put it in the 2070super line up. In at 51percentile it sounds like the reason why I think that tomb raider was too low. I expected to see those number with raytracing not just alone. Or am I wrong? I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding all this.

Dude what you expect @ 4k resolution.  Your fps will be 60 and not be sustained and fall to 53 and even much lower to 20's and 30's.  The only card that can really do 4k gaming at sustained 60fps is the 2080Ti.  That is it.  You want 4k @ 60fps you pay 1300 bones and you will get it.  Not with a 5700XT.  You need to set your resolution to the sweet spot which is 1440p then in nvpanel turn on all AA methods and AF to 16x as they are both pretty much free.

Then if your not using vsync you will see 100fps and drops but not big drops.  Your FPS is normal for 4k and your video card.

I had the same issue with afterburner, you simply have to press the tick box next to framerate :)

I thought that this fps at this resolution with Ray tracing is where the gpu should be at. I haven't found videos now, but it could be that I saw a 2080 test although they should perform similarly right?

Play at your screen's native resolution nad you'll probably get a better framerate, DSR is just a placebo

Yes DSR is a frame rate killer for sure.  I mean the 2070 is simply a 1440p card.  But I can't play at 60fps I like triple digit frame rates in modern AAA titles.  I think the lowest FPS Quake Champions dropped to 83fps for a split second then 140fps.....and never drops below 120fps  You have a good card but it is simply not meant for 4k or DSR ya know.  Plus you will enjoy triple digit fps then 60fps sustained with a 2080Ti and what not.

Probably just shouldn't playing at 4k :o. Just stick with 1440p and you'll have a wonderful experience

If I ever get to replace this toaster my plan is to get at least a $3k build, like OP's or even better, not really sure about prices but those parts must be expensive.

Wow, that is great news.  3k is way too much for a solid top of the line rig.  The 3700 with a 2070 wont reach 1k.  16GB of RAM 3200Mhz is like 100 bones.  Mobo is 250 to 400 .. Then a 100 dollar PSU and a M.2 drive all can be had for way less then 2k more like 1500 bones.  But monitor will fuk dat up and cost your about 300 to 500 dollars.  What is your preference for monitor size and what resolution do you plan on playing at ?

My build was actually ~ 1250$

3700x

B450m mortar

Msi rtx 2070 super gaming x trio

T force Vulcan 16gb 3000 mhz (oc 3200)

XPG sx8200 pro 512gb

Thermaltake toughpower 850w rgb

DIYPC trio GT rgb

I also spent some more on double sided tape and SLEEVES for cables got 1/4 and 1/2"

I recommend the xpg sx8200 pro hands down. I got a crucial P1 1tb and it doesnt compare. Fuck what people say about not noticing difference.

I got almost everything on deals though. Except the cpu and gpu of course.

Yes your right on it.  1500 worst case scenerio buty ya 1250 dollar sounds right.  LOL 3k i crazy,  That would need a 4xxx Thread Ripper 32core 64 threads a 450 to 500 for mobo.  You don't need a TR so ya.  You don't need to drop your crazy amount of 3k lol.

Yeah but I still need to gather half of that budget, somehow. I'm not a gamer but I do enjoy playing a game from time to time and I'd like to play at something higher than 640*480 and 10 FPS, monitor shouldn't be too big, I think a 17" or 19" screen should be enough (I have a 15" LCD now)

Ah man 640x480 .. Oh boy,,,,, your new rig will be 150fps at 1440p and for monitor you can get it for 300 to 400 bones FHD 1080p 144hz and what not.

He can also use all AA methods and its pretty much free.  My nvpanel everything is set to on and high quality everything turned on and maxed out.. also 16x AF is free with a 1050Ti even.

Would 1440p look better on a 4k monitor or same as 1440p monitor?

That'd be kinda too much, 144Hz is more for avid gamers plus I'd only be playing alone because no one wants to play with girls I don't like online games, patience isn't one of my virtues. 60-80Hz and high quality would be more than enough considering what I have now. I'll start a thread whenever I get the money

Let us know before you start your new rig.  My dear Caroline... and well get a nice new PC and a great monitor.  How many inches you want btw for your monitor ?  I mean I don't even think they sell 17 or 19 inch monitors anymore.  The sweet spot is 27" and what not.
