GPU & monitor upgrade

Hi all, 

I am looking to upgrade my GPU and monitor.

The monitor would be something along the lines of 27", 1440p, 165hz/144hz.

I currently have an I7 7700k (not changing), and a GTX970 (looking to upgrade).

primary workload is gaming but for my final year at uni also engineering simulations and some CAD.

Budget: under £1000 for both monitor and GPU, monitor will be purchased first and GPU some time later (before end of year).

1. which GPU would you recommend? team red or green considered
2. Also is 165hz worth it over 144hz?
3. is 240hz worth it?

What is your budget? 240hz is worth it for what it is but its prices are sky high

I think for 1440p something like the rx 5700 xt would be enough

I don't know much about the monitor offerings but make sure they have 1ms response time, have IPS panels, and support Freesync (or gsync if you decide to go with Nvidia)
