Background/Issue: My grandmother has had this HP mini 110 for about 5 years now and she brought it to me because she said that her password changed for an unknown reason.

Actions: So i booted up the notebook and the first boot froze the notebook at selecting which operating system to run (which the only one was windows 7). I then rebooted the notebook and was able to get to the Splashtop screen which is an HP bloatware on this notebook. After clicking "Start Windows" button on the interface, it brings me to the login "Finally!" I say before i realized I can't type any of the keys into the password box. Not one key works except for the "B" keystroke. I have tried backspacing as well and that doesnt seem to work, it only responds to the B key.

What has been attempted but failed: Rebooted pc, attempted to enter the bios and failed. Notebook continues to enter Splashtop welcome screen.

Thoughts: I believe the culprit is a virus but I think it could very well be the keyboard itself, or even the hard drive. I'm thinking on doing several tests to narrow things down.

If you guys can help me with this issue, ill give you free fake internet points! :D

Edit: I do not have a windows 7 disc but I do have an ISO version of it and can mount to my flash drive.

Update: Successfully logged in using a wireless keyboard, however notebook keyboard is still not responding properly.

You could start out by trying a System Restore, that'll most likely be the easiest fix if it works.

Cant access the desktop nor can I access the bios. Also forgot to mention i do not have a windows 7 disc. I could try putting windows 7 onto my usb flash drive and see if the notebook automatically will boot from it without changing anything int he bios.

Can you access the f8 menu to get into safe mode? The top option should be "repair computer" or something like that. You should be able to run a system restore from there.

After I clicked on Windows Start in splashtop, i started pressing f8 and actually got to the boot manager, but it is reacting the same way when i first booted the notebook. Screen is completely frozen and i cant seem to do anything such as press Tab, f8, or even enter key.

Hmm... Have you tried using an external keyboard yet?

it's probably a faulty keyboard, it is a 5 year old netbook and all. Unless your grams has been on some freaky stuff I don't know how she could possibly get a virus sophisticated enough to lock down the keyboard from even accessing BIOS.

Plugged in my wireless keyboard (all i had im afraid) and had the same issue. Unable to access bios nor being able to type anything in.  Also, hilarious comic.

Wireless likely wouldn't work to boot to BIOS.

Rebooted and allowed it to get to the Start screen. Wireless keyboard works flawlessly now and im able to put in the password but the notebook keyboard appears to not work at all except for the B key. Im gonna do some scans and uninstall all the useless programs. I fear the keyboard is dead and needs a replacement though :/.

Dont spend the money replacing a new keyboard. That 5yr old PC needs to be replaced.

Also did it let you boot into windows 7 off your flash drive?
