Hey there, first time poster, I hope I'm posting in the right place, thank you for your time.
I picked up a second hand pre-built PC for a fair price, and it got very little use for about a year before I bought it.
The specs were
                          PSU: ZM600-GV Bronze 600W
                          MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3
CPU: i7 7700 - Quite content with this CPU
RAM: HyperX Fury 8gb (2x 4gb) sigh, lol.
GPU: Gigabyte G1 1080 OC - Was a beasty GPU but..
SSD: Crucial 2.5" 250gb - really happy with this SSD's performance.

I had this PC for 7 months, no issue's. But then one day as soon as I loaded up a game my GPU sizzled, sparked and stopped working. (about 2 months ago)
Is it anything to do with the build, or am I just unlucky with my GPU? I was thinking maybe it wouldn't have happened if there was 16gb of ram, and/or a Gold 750W PSU? I dunno

My plan is to upgrade to a STRIX RTX 2080, HyperX Predator 16gb (3200mhz) (and upgrade to a 144hz Monitor lol)
Is there any compatibility issues here? Will a RTX 2080 plug straight into my Mobo?
Do I need, or would it be recommended to upgrade to a 750W Gold PSU? (Gigabyte Aorus AP750GB 750W 80Plus Gold)

I couldn't quite find the answers (at least convincing answers) after hours of searching, hoping maybe I can get some solid answers from an awesome, respected community :)

Thanks again,
Happy

The fact the PSU is not even on the LTT PSU list worries me a LOT.

And while the 80plus rating is a good indication of how good or bad a psu is, it's not the only thing you should look at.

I would point the PSU as guilty here because on the PSU list, 2 of the 3 series that are indexed from zalman is in the "avoid at all costs" category.

A different PSU might have avoided it, whatever you do replace it, even if it wasn't at fault here. It's NOT worth the risk.

So, ditch the PSU asap and you sadly have th replace your gpu.

This has nothing to do with RAM, just so you know :)

Exactly why I came here to ask first. Thank you so much for your reply!
The PSU was my first thought! I hadn't even heard of Zalman before investigating after my GPU blew ?
I was worried about the RAM as I've always known 16gb is the sweet spot, thank you for clearing that up for me :)
I will be adding a new PSU to my list of upgrades!

And if anyone would know about the compatibility between a 2080 & my mobo (Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3)?
The internet said yes, they are compatible, but the internet has lied to me before ?

2080 will work fine. Nothing to worry about.

About the ram, 16GB might be a nice upgrade tho, these days 8 gigs is enough for gaming, but only just.

So if you have a bit of money left, extra ram is a good idea.
