how does downloading speed work?

Go to solution Solved by TetraSky,

It depends on a number of factors
a) The number of Peers who are also downloading at the same time, which means they are sharing the upload speed of the seeders.

b) The Upload speed of the Seeders. If a seeder's upload speed is only 1Mbps, which isn't uncommon... It will take a while. A few of the more dedicated seeders have what is called a "seedbox", which is often just a dedicated server with fast upload speed.

c) Your download speed. You're fine on that side.

d) Your ISP not being shit and throttling torrents. Doesn't seems to be your problem here though.

f) Your location and the location of the seeder. A bigger distance result in lower speed.

Etc...

Overall, torrenting is basically a game of luck on whether or not you'll get a good seeder or not.

A ratio of 1:2 is pretty standard so you're fine on that side. If you can afford to seed longer, do it, especially if you're on a private tracker.

That said, this conversation is obviously about piracy... So... Keep it on the downlow.

Hi,I was downloading a torrent with Utorrent..there was only 1 of 1 seeder connected and I was downloading with 11 mb/s (I pay for 100Mb/s internet),that was 100% usage of my network. Now I'm downloading another torrent with like 20 seeders and I'm downloading with 5-6-7 mb/s.Why it's like that? Can someone tell me how I downloaded a torrent with 1 seeder with 11 mb/s(it was 70GB) and now I'm downloading another torrent with 6mb,but it has much more seeders. What's the difference between the 1 seeder from the 1st case and the 20 seeders from the second case?I never downloaded a thing with such speed lol. Also can someone tell me how to make such seed? For example I downloaded a 70GB torrent,Uploaded 140GB of it and stopped. Is that enough?I really don't know anything about seeding and torrents.Even I'm downloading a 300GB torrent for 1 week cuz I'm connected with 3 seeders and 3 peers, but the speed is 1 kb/s
