Struggling to decide. Advice needed.

I recently built a new gaming pc minus the video card (onboard graphics atm) about a 1 1/2 - 2 months ago. Was going to buy a strix 2080 OC, Then the super was announced, so I waited. Almost pulled the trigger on a 2080 ti due running out of patience & getting frustrated. But $1200 is a lot of money.

Should I buy the old 2080 since the super might not be in stock for at least a month.

Since the TI has been out for almost a year, I really don't want to spend $1222 on one when a worthy successor with a more refined RTX  will come out in a year.

I'm planning on buying a 1440p 144hz monitor here soon.

I play mainly fps, might venture to other genres later but idk.  definitely waiting for doom eternal.

At current 2080 Super's pricing, no just stay with the 2080. Note that among Super editions, 2080S has the least gain in compute units (percentage AND actual number) than 2070S and 2060S. That leads to the smallest performance gain in the Super series #compensatingforsomething

Thanks for replying.

I know that the performance difference is small. It just feels weird/wrong to buy a card that has already bean replaced.

I hope to play current and future games @ 1440p 100ish hz on near highest detail settings.

Is either 2080 able to do that? or is the highly overpriced TI the only option for that?

I definitely would not go for a 2080S. The small increase in performance is overshadowed by the massive inflation in price due to its very recent launch. Truthfully if I were you, I would get the 2080 if you have the budget, or even a 2070S because from what I've seen, a good OC can rival the performance of a 2080

not uncommon to do counter-intuitive things

If you want to be sure, Radeon VII is better since GCN performance drops off less than whatever Navi or Turing has. Otherwise the 2080s both do it on average frame rate tho not minimums.

Not a vaild argument, 2080 can also be overclocked

Yes, but if hes on a tighter budget and cant afford a 2080 which currently has an extremely over inflated price where I am, then a 2070S which is at least $100 cheaper (once again, where I am) would be a viable option.

2080s is just a remake of the 1080ti, and you would be better off going with a 2080

Current PC (Second Build) : CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 (OC @3.8GHz, sometimes pushed to 4GHz) RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4-2666 (OC @2733Mhz, sometimes pushed to 2800 for testing purposes)   GPU: PowerColor Radeon RX570 8gb MOBO: ASRock B450m Pro4 SSD: Inland 120gb HDD: 1tb Seagate Barracuda PSU: Cooler Master Masterwatt 500w Lite Case: NZXT H500 OS: Arch Linux+ KDE Plasma [Desktop Environment] & Windows 10 Pro [Broken due to grub 50% of the time]

Accessories: Mouse: Alienware AW958 Elite Keyboard: Corsair K63 Wireless  Headphones: Samsung Level On Pro

well i personally suggest that you could get the 2080 or you get the 2070 super. save you some money. oc it and have basically a 2080. and wait till they get back in stock and get yourself a 2080 super.

That said.. if you really die hard want to have a 2080 or 2080 super... go for the 2080 and oc it. it is an ok card for the money but just too expansive in my opinion.
The 2080/2080s/2080ti are way overpriced.
