Computer not powering up after CPU upgrade

Go to solution Solved by Squibbies18,

First gen LGA1151 boards don't support cannon lake, you'll need to buy a newer motherboard

Specs: CX 500w power supply

Gtx 1070

16gb ram

Asus Z170-A motherboard

I upgraded my i5-6600k to an i7-9700k. After I plugged my cords back in and hit the power button nothing came on. No fan spin up, no beeping, nothing. The only lights I see are a light where I plug the Ethernet into and a green light on my motherboard. I used an antistatic wrist band whilst installing the new CPU so I'm really hoping I didn't fry it. Help!

Your motherboard does not support that chip. You would need a z390 mobo. If you went to the store and got a z370 and had them update the bios for you could also do that, but z390 would be plug and play

What's your opinion on this one? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J6Z9KJ2/?tag=pcpapi-20 I used pcpartpicker to make sure it is compatible with everything I have now.
