Mouse delay?

Hi guys.

I have used the MX Master mouse for many years on my laptop with great succes! I just did the job perfectly.

But now i have gotten myself a desktop with a bigger monitor and now i am experiencing delay from the MX Master mouse. I cant really find a solution for this and i am unsure if it is because or my monitor og because of the mouse?

My screen is about 5 years old and i have used it once in a while with my laptop, and when i did that, i had problems with it as well. Both screens are 4K so in my opinion they should be the same for the mouse to work on?

 

Anyone has the same problem or nows anything about what it might be?

 

Monitor: ASUS PB287Q

Laptop: Dell XPS15

By "laggy" I assume you mean your mouse is moving alot slower. Yes both your laptop and monitor have the same resolution. But as the laptop display is much smaller than the monitor, your laptop has a much higher pixel density than your monitor. by my quick calculations probably about 4x the density. In order to get a similar cursor speed try to double the DPI of your mouse when using on your monitor.

Maybe it is actually two problems i have, and your solution may work for when im working with the monitor from my laptop.

 

But the delay when i use my monitor with my Desktop is still there nomatter the dpi. The marker on the screen reacts slow.

Is your monitor set to 60Hz? Check in your GPU control panel (with Nvidia you can find it in Nvidia Control Panel under 'Change resolution's and with Amd I think it's somewhere in info)

are you using a hdmi or displayport cable. since your monitor is 5 years old, it likely only has hdmi 1.4. hsmi 1.4 only supports 4k up to 30Hz. That is likely what is causing your laggy cursor movement. Just plug it in using displayport instead.

mmh.. interesting. It seems that i cant do higher than 30Hz?

Try connecting through displayport. 4k@30Hz is a HDMI 1.4 limitation

I am using the HDMI and i just saw that it only goes to 30Hz. I have to look for that other cable that came in the package 5 years ago 

Do you think that changing the cable can make it work in 60HZ`?

If you change from HDMI to Displayport; yeah for sure. The Asus website States HDMI can only do up to 30Hz, which I personally would describe as laggy.

Display port can do the full resolution at 60hz.

Yes that is correct. you will need displayport to run 4k at 60Hz

I changed the cable. Now nothings appearing on my monitor... It says no signal. Do you know if i have to change the setting anywhere in the graphics card?

change the display input in your monitor from HDMI to DisplayPort.

You probably have to change the input on your monitor. It's likely looking for HDMI input, but you have to adjust it to Display port or auto. Your GPU will just output to whatever it is connected to.

 

Just press a button on your monitor hoping it opens the menu or check the icons.

i did.. still black screen

So you have display port in the video card of your PC (not the motherboard) and have this cable connected directly to the displayport connection of the monitor and the monitor's input set to either display port or auto and it doesn't work?

 

Have you tried turning the PC off and on?

Yes to all of it. And now because the monitor doesnt seem to get a signal from the video card, i cannot change the setting back to HDMI, meaning i cant use the monitor

Try pressing button 4 (4th from the right, when looking at the front) a couple times, sometimes I have found monitors can be a bit annoying when changing the input.

 

Or try reinserting the display port cable on the monitor side (keep in mind display port has a locking latch, so you have to press it in on one side)

I got the HDMI to work again. So it may be something with the graphics card perhaps?

Could be... But from my experience it just works when using a different connection, whichever displayport HDMI or dvi.. you just have to set your monitor.

 

You could, when connected to HDMI, set your monitor to display port and then switch the cable.

 

Otherwise, the problem.lies somewhere between monitor, cable and gpu.
