2070 super or 2080 super ?

Diversityxo

I have everything set up for my pc build , the only thing missing now is the Graphics Card.. I don’t know whether to go for the 2070 super or 2080 super. I will be playing on 1080 res and 1440 res. Will play games like Fortnite, CSGO, Rainbow 6, Call of Duty... I will also be using my pc for streaming my gameplay.

60Hz? 144Hz?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

2080S ofc.

Even if ur running 1080p or 1440p , there will be games that can hammer the 1080ti/2080/2080s cards, especially those with render scaling options that allow internal render resolutions above your native resolution.

For example i'm replaying The Surge before the sequel releases, it has resolution scaling, with that game maxed out at 1080p with 200% scaling, my 1080ti maxes out and drops below 60FPS in areas.

So get the fastest card u can afford regardless.

Well what we do know is that the 2080 Super is a complete waste of money, so if you're choosing between those two and those two only, then go for the 2070 Super. The 2080 Super just doesn't provide anywhere near enough of an improvement over the 2070 Super for the extra $200 you pay for it.

But really, for the games you've mentioned at the resolutions mentioned..the 5700 XT is the best buy. At $400 it dominates the 2070 Super and 2080 Super when we look at value. Even though it's $100 less than the 2070 Super, it's only around 5% behind. It's a far better buy than both of the nvidia cards.

Don't listen to those recommending the 2080 Super. You should be deciding between the 2070 Super and 5700 XT. And definitely don't listen to people talking about resolution scaling, because that's a ridiculous argument to make. If we're going off that thinking, let's have 800% resolution scale. We're gonna need a 50000080ti for that.

Agree 100%

Go look at some reviews and you will see how worthless the 2080S is.

2080 super will help you a lot then. A small margin of performance above my own titan Xp, which I use for 1440p 144fps

well if at this performance level it's a little more favorable, but yeah generally the higher tier cards have bad value. Actually, what you should seek is a 2080 on clearance, because the 2070 and 2080 are replaced by their super models officially.

Yeah I was also looking at the normal 2080 but after watching a video on YouTube I figured the 2070s was better since it was cheaper than the 2080 and the 2070s was almost as good. but earlier today I watched Jays video on the 2080s and how it was a bit better than the normal 2080. But what do you mean by “replaced”?

Why would you consider the 2080s a waste ? But do you think the 5700 XT will be future proof? For at least 4-5 years ? Or do you think if I want to be future proof I should go with an Nvidia card ?

I wouldn't call 40% more expensive than the 2070 Super and 75% more expensive than the 5700 XT as 'a bit'.

Because it costs $200 more than the 2070 Super, and you get 15-20% more performance for that money. Simply not worth it. And considering the games you are playing aren't exactly hugely demanding, 144hz should be fine on a 5700 XT or 2070 Super. CSGO will run with ease at 144hz max settings at 1440p, Rainbow Six Siege should be able to do the same I'd imagine. Fortnite and COD are a little more demanding, but you should still be able to hit those numbers consistently by turning down one or two settings.

The 5700 XT won't last 5 years doing those framerates, except for any newer esports titles that come out. But...neither will the 2070 Super or 2080 Super. They will also not last 5 years at 144hz 1440p. Save yourself some money and get either the 5700XT or 2070 Super. If you really need ray tracing or cuda cores (Which you don't), get the 2070 Super. If you're not interested in that, then get the 5700XT.

Five years ago I had a GTX 980 and a GTX 970. I would hate to use them with modern titles now. Back then I ran 1440 75hz and 4k 60 hz.

I do use ray tracing. It looks nice. My ray traced games run at 60fps at 3840 X 1600.

You might notice that I run RTX 2080 tis so I am the last person you should use the cost argument with. I am only interested in performance.

So with a 2070 Super running Fortnite on 1080 res with a 144hz do you think I will get good frames ? What about if I stream it ? I will have a 3700x paired with it .

Also how long do you think the GPU will last me ?
