Hey

I'm planning out my first custom loop and have a few questions.

For the pump i'm planning to go with linus's recommended swiftech MCP 655 but in the UK I can't find it anywhere in stock but I have found http://www.scan.co.uk/products/alphacool-laing-vpp655-d5-pump-t12-(1-2-barbed-connectors) which seems to be the same pump without a swiftech label, is this the same pump?

I can't decide on red fluid or red tubes. I think fluid looks better but I have found a lot of places saying how its horrible, blocks up the loop, fades quickly and needs changed every few months etc.

Is any of this true? If not could you recommend a brand.

Also how much tubing will I need for a standard loop with 2 rads, cpu block and gpu block, a vague idea would be great.

Finally i keep seeing it mentioned that I will need Something antimicrobial in my loop, would a single silver fitting in my loop take care of this?

Thanks

Yes is the pump reccomended by Linus whenever he does a watercooling guide/pc. The fluid might need changing every 6months but in general pouring new coolant is better every 6months or so. Red tubing may be the route for me if I were you. Check any coolant from mayhem? I don't have much experience with different fluids tbh. What components will you be watercooling? and summaries the ammount of radiators and waterblocks you think you need.

For tubing you could buy a 10/20ft tubing kit.

Yes a single piece of silver will prevent any antimicrobial from growing in the loop.

welcome to the water cooling section.

the D5 is remarketed as many version with different companies.

Swiftech MCP-655/B

Koolance PMP-450/S

XSPC D5

Alphacool VPP655

Aquacompter D5

all D5 variants and interchangeable.

coolants is a looks thing for most. using them the user must take all precautions to

ensure the tubing, biocides and coolant are all compatible. to make things easier for

your first, clear tubing and distilled water with a silver kill coil or biocide would be

easier to handle, maintain and use till you get the gist of the concept of water cooling.

easily a 10foot roll will do fine. especially if you cut some too short, leak from a bad cut

or change routing plan.

Ah great so it is the same pump just different sticker.

So even if i use distilled water it will need changed every six months?

I will be water cooling my CPU and GPU. A 2500k and a 780 classy.

At the moment I am thinking of getting the EK full nickel CPU block and the hyrdo copper gpu block.

Radiator wise I was thinking either dual 360mm or 360mm + 240mm.

Great i was thinking of getting about 5m to make sure :).

That's great, one part sorted.

Ah so just re-brands, do they all have the variable speed?

Yeah so play it safe till i get more comfortable with things.

I was going to go with a silver fitting as i don't like the idea of a random bit of silver floating about in my res.

For coolants I'd look at myahems, it already has the anti corrosion and stuff in it.

I personally like the look of clear tubes much more.  I'm using mayhem's blue-berry concentrate right now in my rig, it was extremely easy to mix. I'm gonna change it out in 6-12 months depending on how it looks by then.

My first watercooling custom loop was in this PC, I used a mcp-655 pump and I'm happy with it.  I got a special edition one from performance pc's.com that already had pre-drilled g1/4 threads in it, instead of the normal 1/2'' barbs.

I was actually expecting my loop to be much harder than it was, and it was actually quite easy.  The only difficult thing is laying out the ~5hours or so you'll need to do it right.

I just realized you live in the UK so it'll be pretty... sort of ...easy to find all the best components for you loop @Fergy007
