Very High CPU Temperatures

Go to solution Solved by minibois,

Most reviews for cooler don't list a certain temperature, but rather 'delta over ambient', which means the current temps of the CPU minus the current temperature in the room. (E.g. a room that is 30 degrees C and a CPU that is 50 degrees C results in 20 degrees C Delta over ambient).

Reason k say this, is because your temperatures are completely dependent on the temperature in the room and 10 degrees C Delta over ambient is not weird at idle.

I use a Dark Rock Pro 4 and I noticed that my idle temperatures were around 37-41C which is very high since just a couple months back it was 30C and lower. I live in the UK and its currently 32C and its probably the cause of the high idle temperatures. I cleaned my PC an hour ago so dust isn't a problem, I have two intake and outtake fans so ventilation is fine and I use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut so heat transfer is also fine. The side panel has been removed so that makes it even more concerning.

*Edit*

I just checked the weather and, turns out its 37C and not 32C which means...

...turns out there's no problem with my idle temps.

Thank you for all the replies.

Is ambient temperature the cause of my high idle temperatures?

To answer the question in general, ambient temperature is the sole factor in idle temperatures if you're not using a cooling system that actively moves heat from the processor (e.g., phase changing or peltier)

If that's what you're getting now, I don't really see a problem. Those "Max" values could also simply be temperature spikes from momentary bits of going to the Turbo Boost speed.

Those temps are more than fine, and the raise in ambient temp is more than likely the cause of it seeming a little higher than normal, only time to worry is if they get above 85-90c when under load.

from 27 to 30 it's really good. I saw a few new cpu's run at 100°C without a problem...

If you still think that these temps are not good, maybe switch to liquid cooling or nitrogen cooling.

Sorry, it was the wrong screenshot, I uploaded the correct one now...

In general you should consider 60 degrees Celcius the absolute maximum for long periods, but aim for 45-50 degrees to be safe

I uploaded the correct screenshot so you should have another look. I know max values are caused spikes in CPU usage but I'm more concerned about current temperatures but thanks.

That is if the UK weather stays tolerable.

I don't expect air coolers to do that much better than 5C on idle over ambient. If your room is 32C give or take a couple of degrees, I'd actually expect upper 30s on idle.

I just checked the weather, turns out its 37C outside so a couple of degrees above ambient is my CPU temperature then. Maybe I should check a reliable weather news source before coming up with conclusions but thanks.

It's all about the temp in the room and monitors too do actually produce heat, but maybe you have a fan going too... There are way too many variables in the temperature of your CPU to right away say within a couple degrees if it's all good.

But roughly up to 20 C degrees over ambient is decent for idle (depends on your definition of idle) and really up to 85 degrees C just in general is fine for current Intel CPU's.
