Why would the question "Stupid Question. AMD or Intel?be stupid...although you just elaborate more on between which micro processor and the socket architecture/chipset?

@PhantomTheOrphan can you post you budget? Will you be running a dedicated graphics card along side the processor?

Post in the new builds and planning section about your build and we will help you and read this first http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

That may be true that he should've instated between choosing a build/processor as a fundamental concrete base but he sounds pretty new as he suggested in his post.

@PhantomTheOrphan You should read the posted link that is hyperlinked in the blue font given by @lilc GJ :D

Depending on the motherboard that you currently have you will only be able to go with AMD or Intel depending on that motherboard. Could you list the motherboard model#?

Also, you mentioned that you are doing editing work what programs are you using and what is your current budget to get things afloat?

Also, what parts remain?

Monitor/ Resolution? i.e., 1920x1080, 1920x1200, 1920x1440.

Memory/Ram?

Hard Drive?

Graphics Card?

CPU?

CASE?

OS?
