GTX 1080 low Perf. on BF5

HoneyCentaur

Despite my good specs BF5 often runs at 33-60 FPS this is basically regardless of the Video settings; Pre-Rendered Frames, DX12 Enabled, V-Sync. Ultra makes it run a little worse and very low makes it run a little better but not by much. This is just a Hail-Mary at this point I don't really have any Idea on what to do.

What I've Observed:

  • Task Manager Shows BF5 at 98-100% CPU Usage
  • Task Manager Shows GPU at 0% Usage when playing
  • GPUz Shows GPU Load of around 30% when playing
  • Running FurMark causes PerfCap Reason on GPUz to Switch from "Idle" to "Power" very quickly

What I've Done:

  • DDU for the graphics drivers
  • Tried most combinations of Video Settings in BF5
  • Install older drivers
  • Install newest drivers
  • Only Install Drivers and No GeForce Experience
  • Install Drivers with GeForce Experience
  • Moved BF5 to SSD
  • Enabled Integrated Graphics
  • Disabled Integrated Graphics
  • Completely Wipe PC
  • Bang my head against a wall repeatedly for 2 hours
  • Incessantly whisper "You can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps" to myself for an entire night

Specs:

  • GTX 1080 (GV-N1080G1)
  • i7-4790k
  • MSI z97 Gaming 3 (BIOS: 2.A)
  • 16gb DDr3 RAM
  • 2x SSD
  • 5x HDD
  • 650 GX2 Pro
  • Windows 10 64 bit

Doesn't really matter what task manger shows as it can be bugged for the gpu easily.

Not sure what you are expecting to fix. The cpu is too weak for that card with that game.

up the scaling resolution or upgrade the rig.

Running any of the unigine benchmarks should still put the gpu at 99% even with them all being single thread and cpu limited.

@Mick Naughty Videos online show the i7-4790k running it at Ultra 98 - 120 FPS

Yea I’m sure they do. I ran over 120 FPS pretty solid with mine and a 1080 on 1440p. But a few patches later and that plummeted.

But in the perfect work on YouTube all rigs can do that.
