Hey guys,

I am wanting to use some old hardware that I have to start a Minecraft server for myself and a couple friends. The hardware is- i7 2600, 8gb ddr3 1333, 500gb sata ssd, intel hd graphics (no gpu)

My question is what OS should I use? I’m familiar with Windows but I think I should go for Linux?

Imo either one. You might get a little more performance and ram to work with if you use linux. The process is going to be basically the same for both operating systems. Download 64 bit java, download mc server jar file, set up your config, and give it a go. Remember to forward your ports correctly.

If you're new to Linux I'd recommend Debian over Ubuntu server. Just get the standard system utilities so you don't have a GUI hogging resources. ~Breadpudding
