Will the GTX 650 work with my current PSU?

Demolishdude

I have searched the entire internet and true information is scattered around. Some say that the 300 watt PSU can handle it, while others disagree. So, will a GTX 650 run on my computer? (Specs). (GTX 650 I am getting).

Yes, but I would keep a 300watt around too long, I think a 650 is like around 60watts at max

I would not recommend because there maybe bottlenecks among other problems.

Your specs say 300w PSU, but the GTX 650 says a minimum of 350w.

No it doesn't. Max is 64watts. You may be thinking of the 560.

I wish. However, the A6-3650 can play BF3 at 30 fps on the lowest settings at 1280x1040 resolution. With a GTX-650? Way better than that.

I would not recommend because there maybe bottlenecks among other problems.

A bottleneck is one of those things that is least likely to happen.

No, I went to DemolishDude's GTX 650 link, went to specifications, and it said minimum of 350w.

Max is 64watts. But you would be cutting it close getting a PSU like that man. I would reconsider.

I don't mind cutting it close, as long as the thing doesn't explode. Worse comes to worse, I may just set it to a low power mode permanently, if that is even possible.

Between the APU and GTX 650, I don't expect a bottleneck. Even if it does, it still out performs my current integrated graphics, which is the entire my goal of upgrading.

If you look on the reference page. It says its max power consumption is 64 watts yet the minimum PSU is 400watts. It is just what manufacturers recommend.

The 3xxx A6 will bottleneck it so much, you will only see about one frame more. No exaggeration.

No. Doesn't have the right power connectors so you have to upgrade it. A molex to pcie won't help, power has to come from the right source.

This is obviously a multirail psu:

An FSP Epsilon 700W has ample power for any SLI rig out there, right? But the unit only comes with two PCIe connectors. The two PCIe connectors on the unit are each on their own +12V rail. Each of these rails provides up to 18A which is almost three times more than what a 6-pin PCIe power connector is designed to deliver! What if I want to run a pair of GTX cards? It would have been ideal if they could put two PCIe connectors on each of those rails instead of just one, but instead those with GTX SLI are forced to use Molex to PCIe adapters. Here comes the problem: When you use the Molex to PCIe adapters, you have now added the load from graphics cards onto the rail that's also supplying power to all of your hard drives, optical drives, fans, CCFL's, water pump.. you name it. Suddenly, during a game, the PC shuts down completely.

Solution: To my knowledge, there aren't one-to-two PCIe adapters. Ideally, you'd want to open that PSU up and solder down another pair of PCIe connectors to the rails the existing PCIe connectors are on, but alas... that is not practical. So even if your PSU has MORE than ample power for your next graphics cards upgrade, if it doesn't come with all of the appropriate connectors, it's time to buy another power supply.

If your system doesn't have enough power for your gpu under full load it can freeze and crash the pc too. It would suck ars if you corrupted windows or messed up files somehow because of this. you Also risk failure to boot or shortages which can kill components.

I call bullshit on that. Total Bullshit.

I've got a socket FM1 system, using a A6-3670K APU. It's got a Sapphire Radoen HD 6870 in there.

I can guarantee A6 or A8 3XXX APU chip will not have that much of a bottleneck on a GTX 650 that there will be no difference in performance versus the GPU portion of the APU.

If more testing verification is needed, I can throw the HD 7970 from my main system into the A6-3670K system. If need be, I could probably borrow a HD 6770, 7770, and/or GTX 550Ti from a few people.

But...according to professional reviews and tests, a HD 6870 and 7770 are faster and outperforms a GTX 650 through all tests...
