Low FPS and Usage in Rust

Go to solution Solved by TymmVonD,

grass.on false in the console (F1) should increase FPS by a fair amount.

Both In rust an dayZ, they f*ck up patches, probably a good example of this, just wait for a new patch, should fix it

well it is alpha

It was the newest WHQL nVidia driver. I tried everything. Reinstalled drivers, OS, Steam, Games... A friend let me know there have been issues with newest WHQL. 331.82 fixed it.

For over a month now, I've been playing Rust. I usually average 90 fps. The past 2 days I've been averaging 45 with dips in the teens. WTF?!??

So...I've been monitoring my system while playing.  When I first saw the GPU usage I immediately thought a CPU bottleneck, but it's low too. CPU total usage is around 50%, and GPU no higher than 40%. I know the game is in alpha so I expect it to be unoptimized and run rough. I've tried uninstalling drivers in safe mode, changing priority in task manager, forcing d3d11 and no singlethreaded in launch options, trying DX9, setting performance for power in nVidia control, setting high perf in Win, lowering graphics preset and also the render quality. Preset and render quality does nothing. No visual or FPS differences. I also ran BL2, it runs at low GPU usage as well, but it Vsyncs at 144.

Win 8.1 with latest nVidia drivers.

I didn't find any helpful topics anywhere, but I apologize if this has already been discussed or hopefully solved. More than anything, typing this out will help me wrap my mind around this issue.

I'm aware of the grass command. I have an 8350 and superclocked 780. I shouldn't have to turn grass off. Your PC is similar. What does your fps look like? Either something is wrong with my system or they changed something in the game.

I'm hoping. I had my friend with 7970 test today and he's averaging 70fps, all my other friends have laptops.
