New computer build

So I’m looking at building a new gaming pc. I’m looking at either the AMD Threadripper or the AMD 9 3900x. I want to game at 1440p at 144hz. I like first person shooters but not the only thing I play. I’m also wanting to learn how to edit photos and video. I’m looking at least 16gb of ram. As for the video card I’m looking at the 2080ti. What do you guys think or how would you build it with a $3,000.00 budget?

I wouldn't recommend spending that much, something like this would serve you quite well and leave room for future upgrades:

A 3900x wouldn't really perform any better in games and while a 9900k is slightly faster in some games it's much more expensive and doesn't have an upgrade path. For some reason the cooler isn't listed properly on pcpp but it's available on amazon and it's definitely compatible.

 

This is the kind of performance you can expect from a system like this:

As you can see the 3900x performs about the same or ever so slightly better while the threadripper consistently performs slightly worse (in games) - therefore the price difference for a 3900x isn't really justified in your case in my opinion.

 

As for video editing, unless you're doing this professionally a 3700x will be plenty.
