RTS like Starcraft or Dawn of War?

Been going thru Steam a lot and looking for a good modern RTS like StarCraft or Dawn of War.

 

I tried WarParty, seemed decent but AI has some issues.  

 

Any recommendations?  Doesn't have to be amazingly cutting edge, just something to relax with is fine.

Haha yep Dune 2000! OpenRA is always getting better, release after release. It's not an exact port of those 3 games so some purists don't like it but it's, to me, better than the originals as they're fixing some of the annoyances and problems. They're working on getting Tiberian Sun and RA2 working as well and may have a play test Beta somewhere available now.

 

Speaking of, Tiberian Sun is free now a days and still a fun game to play. It gets buggy at high resolutions, there's supposedly patches for that around but some make it very laggy. The OpenRA port aims to resolve those issues with the game engine so it'll run correctly at higher resolutions and scale properly so at 4K your soldiers aren't the size of a pin head.

StarCraft and Dawn of War are two different genres of RTS, to nitpick

 

If you want something more like StarCraft:

• Age of Empires
• The Command & Conquer series
• Homeworld
• Rise of Nations
• Star Wars: Empire at War

If you want something that's more like Dawn of War

• Ashes of the Singularity
• Company of Heroes (1 or 2), also made by the same company that did Dawn of War
• Ground Control (1 or 2)
• Supreme Commander
• Wargame: European Escalation
• World in Conflict

If you want something that's more encompassing:

• Sins of a Solar Empire (Real-time 4X)
• The Total War series (battles are real time, but the other aspects are turn based)

I tried it, it's broken as well.  2nd mission the AI built to 10x my size and I wasn't able to make a dent in them in 3 hours.  Literally 10x... multiple settlements, houses everywhere, farms further than my screen could see.  They would kill me group of 40 easily, but also rebuild faster than I could destroy.  I returned it, got a refund.

Looking at this as well, Act of War: Direct Action.  Reviews mention Steam isn't working with Win 10 yet, to buy the GOG version:

I found my old copy of Sins of a Solar Empire, learning how to play again. Yep, still a fun game and it's runs a bit better than it did on my E8400 and GTX 650!

LOVED the C&C series (excluding the games after 'Generals')

Entirely wrong category but Endless Sky is free and fairly fun if a bit of a grind at the start of the game. Don't give up and it gets to be more fun.
