So i wouldnt describe myself as a noob when it comes to pc hardware but when it comes to overclocking, the only experience ive ever had was with a 2200g. I wanted to ask if overclocking a 2600x was worth it, i read that unless you can get to a stable all core oc of 4.3ish ghz then it isnt worth it but how hard would it be to get to 4.2-4.3ghz and what kind of heat output would there be (Currently have a 120 mil aio but looking for a reason to upgrade lol).

2600X maxed out on safe voltage can pull about 150w or so down the EPS connector, so assume 120w of heat pouring out the CPU itself. Maybe need a better cooler, maybe you don't, test it out yourself.

Depends on what you're already getting, but even the best samples of 2600X can only hit 4.4GHz single core and 4.25GHz all core. You can calculate the percentage out from that, and that's talking about much better cooled CPUs in much better boards.

I'd say 1.4V, but starting from 2nd gen AMD Ryzen are really sensitive to temperature, with a cooling setup like yours you could lose frequency on just heat alone caused by high voltage.

If i upgraded my cooler ( I was probably gonna do this anyways) could it result in a higher all core boost without manually oc-ing?

Sell off the 2600x for $100, apply the $100 you would have spent on a better cooler and spend $200 on a 3600.

 

You will get better performance and won't need to overclock

but it's better to crank up precision boost overdrive instead.

i dont really have a need to upgrade as i dont feel the 2600x will bottleneck my gpu in any way just yet.
