Stupid Drivers

This is completely off topic for a tech forum (hence why it's posted in off topic), but I was wondering what kind of stupid things people have seen on the roads.

 

The sort of thing that makes you go:

 

Just the other day I sat at a red light, when the car next to me just decided that they'd had enough of waiting and just drove off when it was still red. 

 

I was also stuck in traffic a while ago and the guy in front of me drove up onto the pavement and drove along for about 10 car lengths before turning into his drive, nearly hitting a guy walking along on his way.

I've only been driving for about 5 months, so I'm still relatively new to it.

I get car sick, even sitting in front.^^

Ah, that sucks. Although it may be different when you're controlling the car.

So I'm nor really sure about that.

Get a car that's fast as fuck and you won't even notice the sickness ( Helped for my rich ass uncle lol.) It's true , your brain produces more adrenaline so the ''fear'' levels are surpassed.

A downside of this is that you will get alot of tickets.

People abuse the power of an automobile. Yet it's so easy to give everyone around you a big middle finger when your locked inside a death machine. I have driven off from a few red lights before. During those times when you know damn well you shouldnt be sitting there past 3 minutes and theres no heavy traffic.

#1 pet peeve when driving, Idiots squatting in the left lane.  If you're not passing someone, you should not be in the left lane.  Regardless of how fast you're going.

#3 Stopping on an on-ramp...wut?

 

 

Most of the idiots I see on the road are idiots because they're distracted, mainly by phones, but also by the morning paper, putting on makeup, or eating.  You're piloting a 2,000+lb death machine.  Pay attention to the task at hand, you're inches from killing people.

Also clowns who come to a complete stop and then take forever to get up to speed on a YIELD sign when there is visibly no traffic coming! 

 

Isn't it funny how fools who talk on their phones are likelier to tailgate also? So their logic is...I'm doing something unsafe, so I'll add to the danger by tailgating as well! Genius.

For the past few years, I've been commuting 125km round trip daily for work, and it's no longer tolerable. If I weren't quitting soon, I would definitely set up a cam in my car just for the LOLs and evidence. Every other week, I almost get killed by some idiot. If not for evasive driving, my car would likely have been totalled by morons at least a dozen times by now. Actually, I should be dead.  

 

Some of the idiotic practices of Vancouver drivers: 

- Leaving headlights (and therefore tail) off in the dark and/or in the rain/fog. 

- Swerving in and out of lanes just to move up a few car lengths (or even just passing a single car that is going at a reasonable rate) when the road ahead is clearly congested for miles in all lanes 

- Clueless bozos cruising in the far left lane at speeds significantly slower than the flow of traffic ahead. These clowns don't notice that lots of other cars have to go around them, and that a mile of traffic is backed up behind them. 

- Cars taking forever to get up to speed, merging onto the freeway much slower than the speed limit when the road is fairly clear. This obstructs other cars travelling in the far right lane and obviously backs up others merging behind. 

- Not shoulder checking and just about running others off the road --I've lost count how many times this has happened to me. In one occurance while doing 100kph, I was honking like a lunatic, and this young woman just kept drifting over merily anyway, forcing me to slam on my brakes and then swerve onto the shoulder just to avoid her. Another incident had me slamming onto the curb at low speed to avoid being sideswipped by a buffoon in a van. At the light, I looked over at him, and he was completely oblivious. If I had a cam installed, I would have happily allowed this idiot to ram into me. 

 

It's very easy to tell how bad a driver is. On a fairly smooth flowing freeway without significant (30kph +) and abrupt speed deviations, if you have to brake more than a few times over at least 30km, then you are a poor driver. It's very impossible to go more than 30km without braking once even while keeping a 2-3 second gap from the car ahead. Assuming some fool doesn't cut me off or try to sideswipe me, I can go from Grandview to Abbotsford and back without ever touching the brakes.

 

A UK study indicates that people who commute more than 50 miles for work (each way) have significantly increased changes of premature death than those who don't travel as far. Those who don't get killed by idiots probably died of exasperation at the stupidity of your average driver.  :rolleyes:

Ever since the advent of 'auto' on the headlight switch, this has been a huge problem.  Before, if you saw someone with their headlights off, they legitimately forgot to turn them on, and if you flashed them, they would turn them on.

 

Now, since people have them on 'auto' they feel that takes care of 100% of situations.  Well, it doesn't.  If it's snowing/raining/foggy but still fairly light out, your lights aren't on.

drive off a 2 foot wall...

drive up onto the sidewalk hit the side of a telephone poll drive to the next liquor store and start unloading their car so they can ditch it(called the cops on that guy)

people driving on the wrong side of the road(i almost hit a guy that was doing that when i was driving 40mph)

run red lights after sitting there for a bit, run stop signs like they are not there

drive over the dip at the end of my street at 50mph and lose stuff out the back of their truck, an suv do it and trip the gas pump safety shut off

turn on the wrong turn signal before turning

a guy driving over a line of shopping carts in a suv

swerve to avoid something and as a result hit it

 

I'm sure there are other things that i will think of later

A few of these sound like just stupid mistakes. I can forgive an occasional stupid mistake. It's those pervasive, stupid tendencies that I can't stand. You know --not shoulder checking, holding up traffic, cutting through logjam traffic, tailgating, etc. on a consistent basis. I bet that most of these clowns don't even know that they're bozos.
