Removing the GPU metal bracket

Im in planing mode for my custom case right now and currently planing for the GPU. Im going to flip it 90 degres with a riser card. The backplat im using for the cas is going to be black and dont have any mounting holes for a GPU. I was wondering if it's possible to remove the metal bracket where all of the HDMIs and DVIs are and mod it? i have to paint it and have a different mounting solution then a standard case solution

If you want to remove the i/o bracket on the GPU, it should be as simple as removing some screws on the i/o bracket itself. I think there is one more screw on the back of the card, holding the bracket.

The i/o bracket is just screwed in but you need the bracket to mount the GPU to something.
