Hi All

So I have issues with my laptop (Alienware 17 R5) where the majority of the time, the mic input was detected but it wasn't picking up anything.

The mic works fine on my other computer and other headsets have the same issue on this laptop.

I have tried:

  1. Using a variety of different headsets, sound always works but not the mic.
  2. Uninstalling Realtek drivers (upon restarting it always returns)
  3. Plugging via 3.5mm jack direct into laptop.
  4. Plugging via USB direct into laptop.
  5. Plugging via 3.5mm jack into Thunderbolt dock.
  6. Plugging via USB into Thunderbolt dock.
  7. Reinstalling Windows from scratch in case it was a registry issue.

This problem is plaguing me and means I can't really use the laptop as I need it for client calls and can't just go dark in the middle of it.

The only thing I can think of now is that its the soundcard on the mobo which of course has everything integrated with it.

I'm talking to the Dell techs about this currently but wanted to hear your thoughts.

Many thanks

Jordan
