So I just received my MSI B450 Tomahawk and after building the PC I'm getting a blank screen and the VGA LED on the motherboard is on, which means according to the manual that there's an issue with the GPU. The said GPU is an MSI Vega 56 which was working fine on my old motherboard. I also tried another GPU, a GTX 750 and I'm having the exact same issue.

With both GPU's sometimes the fans won't even turn spin, and on the MSI sometimes the MSI logo doesn't light up.

I tried to reset the CMOS and trying the RAM sticks one by one with no luck.

The CPU is a Ryzen 5 2600X, so no iGPU to run more tests. There's another PCI port on the motherboard but for some reason I can't make any GPU fit in when it's inside the case so I'll try this one with motherboard out of the case tomorrow.

In the meantime, what else can I try?

Thanks

Did you try a different PCIe slot, perhaps the slot is shot.

Update: After flashing the latest BIOS, I'm still not getting any post but instead the led seems to switch randomly from VGA to any other issue for a few seconds, then I get no error led but still no post. It seems like all case fans and GPU fans are running at full speed.

I think I'll buy a laptop next time :/

sounds like a ram issue if the fans go full blast when powering on. mess around with the rams. try reseating the cpu as well.

Tried that with no luck. I also tried the second PCI port. Resetting the CPU didn't help. I also flashed the latest BIOS.

Also, the fans are no longer running at full speed. I think that changed after the BIOS unless it was just happening randomly.

Now one thing that I do notice is that the main PCI port is kinda wobbly. Even with the latch the mechanism, the GPU moves quite a bit when not screwed in. I don't know if on all this particular motherboard model or on my unit, but the 750 would stop spinning when not screwed to the case.

Also, the motherboard is supposed to be new, it looks and smells new, but it came with no CPU cover. What am I supposed to think?

OK I was finally able to get a post. Now this is weird. I had to use my GTX 750 and its DVI port. HDMI doesn't work at all. How can I fix this since the Vega only has HDMI and DP ports and I don't have any DP cable. My monitor only supports HDMI, DVI, and VGA. I tested the cable and the monitor and both are working fine.
