hey everyone, its new build time and sticking with a ryzen build.

been shopping around and getting deals but im abit lost and got confused on the ram i most likely be needing.

bought a asus b450-f motherboard and looking to buy trident z 16gb 3000mhz ram and been discouraged as read about ram needing to be overclocked and changing settings to which im turning my nose at because have no previous knowledge, so anyhelp welcome and/or any products people have had good experience with tia as always.

I would buy as close to 3600MHz RAM as you can afford.

im guessing in a dual configuration over a single dimm? also is there a huge difference between 8gb and 16gb if both 3600mhz do you know ?

Always always always get at least 2 sticks of RAM. Saving like $5 and going for a single dimm is just about the cheapest way to screw up your performance. So 16GB would be 2 8GB sticks, 8GB would be 2 4GB sticks.

As for capacity, many games take over 8GB of RAM(even for me CS:GO, running 1920x1440 at lowest settings)

I'd only recommend 2x4GB on a tight budget. Everything else should be 2x8GB minimum(for gaming 2x8GB is all you need)

You want to run at least 2 sticks for dual channel.  If you can only afford 8GB of RAM then that's enough for most things, but many folks would encourage 16GB.  It won't impact speed if you are talking about dual channel for either capacity kit.

What's your budget? Might be better for us to help with the entire build to ensure you're not going overkill on certain parts and skimping on other important parts.

RAM shouldn't have an issue, just turn on XMP in the BIOS and it should run as advertised

Do you need RGB RAM?  I've seen some awesome deals on the Viper Steel 4400CL19 kits.  If you can find one then I would snag that instead because its Samsung b-die and you can run it at better timings.

Running 4400CL19 gives you higher latency than 3600CL16. Anything above 3733 on Ryzen 3000 means the memory speed is effectively halved to compensate.

No, no.  I don't want him to run them at 4400MHz.  I recommended the kit because of its price and that's it's b-die.  What I would encourage is running that kit at around 3600MHz ~ 3733MHz with tighter timings.  Hopefully 14-14-14-14.

Much better, but be aware that you can find GTX 1070s and vega 56s for around £200 on ebay and stuff. Even an EVGA SC2 GTX 1070 can be had used for £200 pretty easily and its a great card.

Oh, no.  You want a low CL.  So even on a high speed kit you want the lowest CL possible.  The reason why I recommended the high speed kit is so that you can reduce the speed which almost always means you can also reduce the CL.  So if you get that kit you may not be able to run its XMP profile and you'll have to tune the kit manually.  It isn't terribly difficult though.

In this scenario we will taking a 4400MHz CL 19 kit and reducing the speed down to around 3600MHz to run it at CL 14.  Or if you go with a new Ryzen 3000 CPU then hopefully 3733MHz with CL14.  Higher than 3600MHz on Ryzen 2000 is highly unlikely and on a Ryzen 3000 CPU it's said to be very likely, but then you have to slow down the speed of the CPU's interconnect speeds at a 2:1 ratio when going past 3733MHz.  So your RAM would run at 3733MHz while the CPU interconnect speed would be half of that at 1867MHz.
