Did it break?

Hi guys so I was removing my stock intel cpu cooler and I swear one of the things snapped and anyways after I removed the black thingys(Im a noob at pc things) I cant remove the fan and heatsink. Did I break it?

Yep, the Intel stock cooler mounting system is the worst.

You use a flat head screw driver to align all those knobs so that the line is perpendicular to the heatsink

Then you wiggle the heatsink a bit until the thermal paste gets loose and you can lift the cpu cooler

 

 

Dont' follow my arrow, you may have to twist left instead of right. I use these coolers so rarely that I don't know exactly how.

I know that you install them just by pressing down on those knobs. As you press down, they're supposed to twist a bit and lock in place, you have to use a screwdriver or something to untwist if you want to release them.

Here's to hoping that Intel learns from AMD and totally re-engineer their stock heatsinks.
