RTX or GTX?

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card and would like to dabble in ray tracing. I know the feature is supported now on GTX cards and I'm wondering if i should get a RTX 2060 or the older but similar priced GTX 1080 ti? I currently have a GTX 1060 6 gig that works flawless until I hit it with any ray tracing load.

In ray tracing, the rtx 2060 is miles better than a gtx 1080 ti, because of its dedicated ray tracing cores. The 1080 ti is a better card elsewhere. Keep in mind that the 1080 ti is two years older.

If I recall correctly you need a pretty high-dollar RTX card (2080+) to really have solid framerates in the three games that support RTX (at 1440p+)

 

I'd suggest waiting until the next generation of cards, when the barrier to entry is cheaper and more games have it.

 

But if you want raytracing now, RTX 2060 for 1080p is an option. If your 1060 6G is giving you good framerates now, save your money for the 3000 or 2600 or whatever the next series is.

It depends on the workload. As far as I know the RTX 2060 is better for raytracing because it's made to do that. However, the GTX 1080ti is better in every other way

@bimmerman I'm comfortable at 1080p 40 fps and I've seen the RTX card do that better so I think I will go along with the 2060.

I have a 2070 not happy at all there Are no games for it and the games that are available give you 60fps on medium if you are lucky take the 1080ti believe me
