Is it possible to remove soldered ram off a laptop and replace it with new ram chips?

as far as i know most laptops which exist in several ram capacities have the same bios an with the right equipment and a lot of flux this shouldn't be too difficult

If possible this would be a cheaper alternative to configurating it with the highest amount of ram possible when buying a laptop, plus you could you what ever amount of ram you'd like

Does anybody has any experience doing this or advice, before i test it myself?
