Hi everyone

Looking to do a first time PC Build with me and my son, and hoping you can all give me some pointers

For me it will be for largely gaming, No streaming (but i might look into that  at a later date).

My son however is getting into art and it's looking like he will be getting a low end drawing tablet for Christmas, (as well as occasional gaming, unfortunately he is well into fortnite).

I've done some research and specd a build, with hopefully room to grow should i choose to upgrade at a later date, and before i pull the trigger and start buying the parts.

This is what i've come up with

PCPartPicker Part List: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/9HkVMZ

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor  (£127.50 @ Aria PC)

Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  (£73.98 @ Aria PC)
Storage: Western Digital - Blue 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  (£55.99 @ CCL Computers)
Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£58.98 @ Ebuyer)
Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB VENTUS XS OC Video Card  (£264.98 @ Box Limited)
Case: NZXT - H500 ATX Mid Tower Case  (£69.98 @ AWD-IT)
Power Supply: Corsair - CXM (2015) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply  (£52.09 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £850.45
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

the plan is to have a rig that i have room for upgrades later (CPU, GPU, RAM)

Akready have monitors, as i work from home and bought a couple of half decent ones that i could connect my work laptop to.

also have keyboard and mouse, but these are your basic "office" types, so reccomendations on these as well would be great.

Am i missing anything?

Hi Lee

I've been keeping an eye on the Ryzen CPUs, it's gonna be a few months before i have all the money together so yeah i could probably wait.

I could also downgrade the motherboard as well, I'll be honest i went for that board because i liked the look of it over anything else

The Tomahawk is a solid board for the money. It will easily handle a 6 core cpu. Also it has a bios flashback button so you can update without a cpu installed. The next step up would be the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC if you want wifi and a slightly better VRM.

Not much difference really. Both allow overclocking. The X470 chipset has a few more features like SLI support and obviously it has higher end boards like the Asus Crosshair and ASRock Taichi etc. You might also have more SATA and USB ports etc.

This is better in every way.

Pick up an R5 3600 and use the Bios flashback to udate the bord to support third gen.

The MSI Tomahawk is a better board for an extra £10. Also the MSI board has bios flashback so it can be updated without a cpu. Not sure if ASRock have anything similar but if not you would need a board with an up to date bios if going with an R5 3600/X.

That SSD is bad as it has no DRAM cache. Stick with the MX500 if going with Crucial.

The Asus Vega cards have VRM thermal issues. It can be fixed but it means replacing the thermal pad, which means taking the thing apart. The Powercolor one above would be a better option if going with a Vega.
