Yes, 144Hz will be noticeably smoother than 60Hz as long as your system can push it.

Enough of a difference for people like me to drop a few hundred bucks on a new monitor that's for sure

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

If you have the money and want to get a 144hz monitor do it, but only if like Crunchy Dragon said your system can push out the frames.

I'd say it's worth it. Here in the Philippines it costs around 40$ more to get a 24" gaming monitor that's 144hz from a regular IPS monitor, and yeah, it's good.

I didn't really care for years, then this year I built my desktop finally, and got a 1440p144 G-Sync panel and... I won't go back. 144Hz is noticeably smoother honestly, especially with G-sync combined in it.

I don't notice a real difference between 1080p and 1440p however. It's just nice to have the extra screen real estate when browsing, and working from home.

Not necessarily true. I wish people would stop making these absolutes. I can barely tell the difference, and would much rather have a better resolution. A friend of mine is the same way. The OP needs to try it first.

Fair point.

I was speaking generally, most people I've talked to can tell a difference between 144 and 60.

If you have a super cheap heatsync (like stock Intel), then I'd recommend purchasin one that's a little better, since higher FPS means higher CPU temps.  I recently purchased an ASUS 1080p 1ms 144Hz monitor for my g/f and my old i5-4690k kept overheatin w/the stock Intel cooler, so we upgraded it to the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition and it stopped overheatin and crashin on games that were pushin 140+ FPS; it was fine at around 120FPS, if I remember correctly.

Your Processor and Graphics Card have to be able to handle the upgrade, though; so make sure your hardware is relevant, especially at 1440p, if it's a big upgrade for you from 720/1080p.

Primary

OS:        Windows 10 - Professional (64-bit)

CPU:      i9-10900k 3.7-5.3GHz (10th gen)

GPU:      EVGA RTX 3080ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming 12gb

MB:         ASUS RoG Maximus XIII Hero (ATX)

RAM:      64gb (4x16) DDR4-3200MHz G.Skill TridentZ Silver/Black (CL16)

HD:         1x 8TB Corsair MP400 NVMe PCIe 3.0 (SSD)

               2x 16TB Seagate Exos 7200rpm (HDD)

E-HD:     12TB WD

PSU:       EVGA 1000w G2, 80+ Gold (modular)

UPS:       900w CyberPower

Display:   ASUS 27” 1440p/270Hz IPS 0.5ms (XG27AQM)

KeyB:      EVGA Z15 (wired)

Mouse:    Logitech G-502 Hero (400/600/800/1000)

Headset: JBL Quantum ONE Gaming Headset

Case:      Cooler Master MasterCase H500P Mesh (ATX)

I'd love to see some statistics with a large and diverse sample size. From online discussions I would seem to be in the minority (which wouldn't surprise me at all), but some actual numbers behind it would be interesting.

It depends on the person.

Some are sensitive to it, others not at all.

Personally I am not actively aware of a difference with my 144hz monitor vs a 60hz one.

The same with cinema,  a regular screen and imax, for me it's just louder and a bigger screen, that's it.

Having said that, other people are like once they go 144 they never go back.

Try it out and see yourself.

There are few upgrades I have loved as much as higher frame rates.  Going from 1080p to 1440p to 4k, all kinda meh.  Ya it looks a little better, but you really have to have a large monitor and be sitting close to it to notice how great 4k is.  If those three are on 24 inch monitors, 1080p doesn't look all that bad in comparison.  32 inch monitor?  OK now i'll bite on a higher res.

Refresh rate however, is another story.  Going from 60 to 144hz is awesome, and how smooth things look when you move (or move the camera) in games is very appreciable.  Honestly hard to go back (my monitor at work is 60Hz, playing games on it definitely not the same as the 144hz I have gotten used to!)  I feel like I am watching things in slow motion when I play at 60

Once u go 144hz u gona need a wheel chair,

I was a happy gamer 5 years ago

980ti 4790k

1080p 60hz killed everything

Then I went 4k why not

Ended up getting sli to get 60hz

No problem max most games 60 hz

Then I see some videos on 144hz 1440p

So I sell my 4k monitor and get a acer xb270hu

( the best monitor at the time)

And well fuck

Gpus couldn't handle it

Lowered setting CPU couldn't handle it

Got a 8700k and a 1080ti gpu still not handling it

Got a 2080ti just about handle it

If u go 144hz and want super high fps in all games not just esports prepare to be chasing it for ever And spending lots of money

Or do what I doing now and settle for 80-120 fps in most aaa games and 144 on esports

Yup, he's right on.  1440p high refresh is the bomb, but almost nothing can consistently push it.  I am happy with 144 hz in Esports and lesser demand titles and around 90-120 on tougher titles.  Pricey though

Keep 150-170 frames on my 240 hz monitor, used to have several 120hz. High res is better in every way. Have a 144hz 1440 monitor, great and all but harder to use for good frames paired with a bad cpu.

Money well spent regardless, though I buy cheap monitors.
