push single core performance?

I have an i5-8400 cpu is there any way to get more single core performance or higher clock speed.

I don't care if it hinders multicore i just want more single core.

currenty tops out at 3.8 ghz.

pretty sure the single core boost of 8400 is 4.0ghz, you can change the setting in bios to boost 1-2 cores to 4.0 instead of all cores to 3.8

i have a very limited dell bios don't see an option like that

there is "intel speed step" and "intel speed shift" don't know what they do tho

I also never see 4ghz in task manager only 3.8

You really aren't going to get a whole lot of gains whilst running a locked cpu, no way to change multiplier or probably even base clock in an oem bios. Only way to really get more speed would be buy an unlocked processor with higher default clocks which just isn't worth doing. Your i5 8400 is still really good for now so I'd just rock it and be happy.

You get more single thread performance by overclocking it.

Which you can't do with that CPU.
