3600 or 3700x?

Eyeing both cpus for my next build and I'm not sure which to get. Will be using blender, photoshop, and lightroom for the most part and not by any means will they be used for professional purposes, but rather as hobbies. It comes down to core count since they have similar clock speeds.

R7 3700X by all means, we will finally have the sweet affordable 2700X multi-tasking, multi-threading capacity enhanced with actually what is looking like Skylake ~ Kaby Lake single thread performance at last.

 

Infinity Fabric has matured, memory controllers has matured, the 3700X will be a "future-proof" beast for the upcoming couple of years and it is worth affording if work on these software if be in any way meaningful.

Wouldn't the 3700x and 3800x essentially 2700 and 2700x?

We do have 1700 1700x and 1800x

Only reason I'm upgrading is because my 4core cpu doesnt have enough cores.  6 cores will be same in 5 years or whatever.

we have a great uncertainty on mobo pricing.

either get older gen B450 ~$80 or

new x570 ~$200 , but this wold make ryzen a costly buy

If a 6 core performs like a 7700K does now, you'll be more than happy.  Games still aren't coded to use all the cores and threads we have available to us even at 4/8, let alone 6/12.

Still prob works out cheaper than the alternative Intel CPU and Mobo..

They had a lot more yesterday and started around 200 euros.. 

Still just look at the x570 boards like the top end boards you get for Intel that are a similar price. If you don't want pcie 4.0 then look at the x470 boards or even B series as you suggested.
