Hi folks

I've noticed I'm having horrible performance, frames wise, in CSGO.

I'm about 70-150 FPS depending on the map, and it fluctuates a lot depending on which direction I look in. I'm running every setting on low, and even then I often drop to 70 frames.

With my specs I feel like I should be able to get atleast a stable 150 to utilize my monitor.

Specs are

CPU: i7-4790k (not OC'd)

Motherboard: MSI z97 Gaming 7

RAM: 16gb DDR3 2400mhz

GPU: EVGA 1070TI

Monitor is an Acer xz350cu running 2560x1080 @ 144hz.

Game is installed on an SSD, and the build is powered by a Corsair 860i PSU

Running a fully updated Win10, all drivers up to date. The issue didn't start recently, but I haven't been playing CSGO a lot recently so didn't really care much about it as everything else seems to be running stable and smooth at higher frames.

Do you have any ideas what might be causing the issue?

Not sure what you're trying to say. Issue occurs even after a fresh install of windows and manually installing the drivers rather than using Geforce experience.

Are there any background programs running that hog a lot of CPU processing power?  I found out that I had some stuff running in the background like Razer Cortex that pinned my CPU at 100% utilization.  In my experience, Razer software has done that with my computer, however.

I advise you to first of all to follow these instructions from BananaGaming on YouTube. In this video he tells you the proper settings for your nvidia control panel which helps a lot with fps. He's great and has a lot of knowledge on performance in CSGO.

Next I would suggest you make sure the command "cl_forcepreload" is set to "0" in your config file. John Mcdonald confirmed this on twitter that it should always be set to 0. For me it gave a slight fps boost coming from "1". But you can try it out. Basically when it's set to "1" it loads the entire map before you enter the server and should then increase fps. But if it is set to 0 the map is loaded into your memory. So from that description it sounds like it should be set to 1 but I don't know. I just know that BananaGaming had a conversation with him on twitter (can't find the tweets) where John said that it should always be set to 0, and like I said, for me it increased fps, but it might be different for you. Try it out and see what works.

You can also check and see if the command "fps_max" is set to something other than the default "300". If it's lower than that you can increase it to 300.

Another thing you can do is lower the shadow setting in csgo to low since you don't need it higher than that.

Also make sure to turn off FXAA Anti Aliasing in CSGO Video Settings, it lowers fps.

If you want to get into the whole "making your own config" thing, if you don't have one already, you can watch this video:

It's from the same guy "BananaGaming" and he explains how you make your own config etc.

Other than this, what I can recommend is to turn off Background Apps if you don't need them in Windows.

Start -> Settings -> Privacy -> Background Apps -> Let apps run in the background -> Off

Enable High Performance mode in Power Options in Windows Settings.

Start -> Settings -> System -> Power & Sleep -> Additional Power Settings -> Set it to High Performance.

These are a few of the things I can recommend you to change to increase your fps. Oh and lowering your resolution if you want to also helps with fps.

Make sure to add "-refresh 144" without the " to make sure the game is running at 144hz.

If you need any more help, just reply and I'll try to help you as much as I can.

Cheers
