Virtualization with Unraid

Very soon I planning to do my virtualization project that will be for 2 gaming rigs from 1 tower,

I using the 2920X with GTX 1080TI and planning to buy another RTX 2080 and doing them watercooled 

 

But my question is can I use 2 operating systems that one will be for the virtualization for 2 rigs and the other one will be for a single rig from separate drives?

Yes, you can configure virtual hard drives to use separate drives.

lol maybe I didn't explain it well ^^

I mean that when I will want to use the PC as virtualization I will boot to the drive that I will install the Unraid

and when I will want to use it as a regular pc without the virtualization I will boot to another drive

 

for now I have 2 M.2 that I'm not planning to add to the virtualization and I will buy another 2 SATA SSDs and 2 HDDs when I will do the virtualization

After reading your updates it looks like you want to do this: 

 

In short, you can do it, but you would be wasting hardware as two of your video cards will be idle while in the OS.

You can also save a bit of money by not using Unraid. The actual virt software being used is called KVM, which Proxmox will run for free.

Are you talking about Dual Booting unRAID and Windows 10?

Why would you do this? What is the purpose you are trying to accomplish?

It sounds like you want to do a manual dual boot? 
i'm doing this on one of my rigs.

By default it boots to my ssd which has windows 10 installed.  If I want to boot to unraid I restart then manually boot to my usb.  I also have some storage set aside just for unraid and I leave my windows drives outside the unraid array.

 

I'm also tempted to do this with my esxi box as I want to do some baremetal windows 10 things on it as well.

If you look at just the base parts that are shared...its cheaper just to build 2 x 6C/12T Ryzen builds than the 12C/24T threadripper.

Then you dont have to worry about a 3rd GPU for UnRAID. UnRAID licensing. Both PC's being down if something breaks. and all the other headaches that come with a 2Gamers1CPU....

You should be able to what you want with just 2 GPUs.  Even if unraid OS displays on one the GPUs, if you launch a vm that uses passthrough, it will take over the gpu.

 

I just cycle 1 vm at a time on my test rig and it uses the 1 gpu I have installed on it.
