File Sharing Problems

I would like to share my files from my desktop to my local devices via the modem (until i can afford a NAS device), but the problem i am having is that after setting it up my xbox (VLC app) is returning this error 

i did use to have it setup but only just wanted to use it with my new desktop (as the old one got wiped) i have shared the folder and made the computer discoverable and now im just looking at a fix

If your trying to stream video on the Xbox from the pc might I suggest Plex. Install the server app on your pc and point to the video folders. Then install the client app on the Xbox. Plex is free with a few features missing. But it would be easier then the method your using.
