So I have NewWave, basically the only high speed internet solution in my area. I have the basic package, 100 mbps down, 10 mbps up.

Here’s the issue, normally when playin online games I have no issues. My latency is typically between 20 ms and 80 ms depending on the game. Lately, for about the last week, my latency has been spiking anywhere between 34 ms to 600 ms, making rubber banding a very big issue, and a tendency to be kicked from competitive ranked games. I’m also going to start working from home soon, using a remote connection to a VM.

Solutions I’ve tried already include soft resetting the router, unplugging the router for 5 minutes and plugging it back in, and calling tech support (which basically told me to do the same exact thing).

Other points of interest, my device is not the only device in the house experience the issue. The connection is wired Ethernet. I have checked all physical connections, including the coaxial cable to the router. I have done ping tests from multiple devices, including the router itself, and all are spiking around the same ping. Also, I am not getting any dropped packets while testing.

Any ideas of what I should do? Should I call tech support again?

Also, as for the 10 mbps down, I normally only get 2-3 mbps up and 5 mbps up on a good day. I know they advertise it as “up to 10 mbps.” But it kinda sucks when you are trying to even upload videos or use Skype/Discord.  Should I bring this up the next time I call?

And before I get the obvious “get better internet” comments, I have already stated that this is the only solution for me at the moment for anything more than 20 mbps down via DSL. And I’m not willing to move to a different area just to have better internet. Also, I understand that some people might think that just upgrading the internet package might be what I need, but it’s not the speed that’s the issue, it’s the latency.

Although these are useful tools, they are giving me all the same results. My download speed is higher than rated at around 105 mbps to 110 mbps, and my upload speed is around 3 mbps to 5 mbps. Latency on these test are only being tested once and show around 10 ms to 30 ms given the different locations for testing. Yet, running a ping command for about 20 pings will show spikes in latency.

Slight update, it seems that at the moment my ping spikes have stopped. I don't know if it's just the decrease in internet traffic at 1:50 AM or not. I'm usually experiencing these spikes at around 8:30 PM to 12:00 AM (the times when I'm actually home in order to test, relax, and play games before I have to sleep.)
