3x4Pin??

Hi  i bought the MSI X470 GAMING PLUS.

do i need to plug in all 12 pins on top of the Motherboard? my psu has only a 2x4 pin connector... Can i try to use my 2700x that way or do i need a new psu with 3x4pin?

What is your power supply make and model?

 

You'll be fine with just the 2x4(8 pin) power cable. The extra 4 are just for extreme overclocking. I'm mostly just curious about the make and model, and it won't affect the power cable question.

its a 500W pure power 11 from BQ  thx 4 the answer!

yup. hell you should be fine with just a 4 pin. each 12v wire (8 pin has 4) can carry ~6A so thats 300W in one 8 pin

I have that motherboard. Can confirm it works with just the 4 pin or just the 8 pin. I currently use just the 8 pin on a Ryzen 5 2600 @4.15hz and 1.375v. I've run it as high as 1.45 trying to get higher, but just can't do it reliably without way more voltage than it's worth. But the motherboard and CPU both survived cinebench and prime95 at 1.45 without any unusual VRM temps.
