Obviously, spec wise the laptops are the same, but I am more concerned about build quality and longevity of the system. It will mainly be used for school assignments dealing with VMs and other heavy tasks. I also don't want a generic looking gaming laptop. I want a more subtle looking system. I am open to other suggestions. These are the two that I have found that I like the most.

I should mention that I have had many Dells before, and all have failed on me, so that is my only huge concern with the Dell. Razer I have heard nothing but great things but I have 0 experience with them.

Budget is $2000 and below

Thanks.

Then go for premium business laptop / mobile workstation, however they are expensive

Any preference on weight and battery life?

I would prefer something lighter. Battery life isn't too much of a concern since my classes all have outlets in the desks.

I have looked at all the options but only gaming laptops seem to fit in my budget. I would love an XPS or something similar but it is all way too expensive.

I know there are some within my budget, but neither with a 8750H and 16GB of RAM.

5lbs or less preferably.

Well the blade has an overall better pleasing desgin and right now you can find that specific sku for $1500. The blade has amazing build quality. The G series are Dell's second class gaming line so I don't think dell will put so much into it

They do have 8750H and 16GB RAM. Note that if you get a consumer grade laptop, there's no guarantee on longevity

Are you from Canada? $2000 in CAD?
