What PSU to get?

gaztheho

Hi all,

I currently have: i5-9400f and a rx570 4gb.

I’m looking for a new PSU because the Corsair VS550 is causing coil whine.

PCPartPicker says my build doesn’t use more than 450W so i’m thinking of getting a high quality 450W PSU but I’m also planning to upgrade my GPU to a RTX 2060 because I also have a 144hz1080p monitor.

Just wondering if 450W is enough for a 2060 and is the 2060 a good purchase price-wise for 144hz1080p gaming.

Thanks

everything maxed out it should do perfectly fine, worst case you slightly drop a setting and the fps should go up (depending on the game)

the 450w psu should be fine

rx 570 and 2060 consume around the same power for what i found (160w)+ i5 (95w) and you got the spare room

I'm a big fan of EVGA's graphics cards and power supplies. I'd get a gold+ rated 500w psu from them. Their customer support is excellent.

got a cheap one from them (80plus white 600w, 50 euros) died in 5 months after a week and a half or something got my replacement (+20 euros shipping) it was a semmi-modular 850wbq bronze of 130 euros in value with black cables... get a reliable one or get an upgrade from the rma service (if they don't have your unit in stock the send the most similar)

Hard to recommend a PSU and judge if a 2060 is worth it, considering we don't know what options are available to you, and for what prices. Where will you buy from?

I’m from Australia so brands are pretty limited but stores like JW, MSY, Scorptec or Umart to purchase

Here you are take your pick. I Made sure to include links solid PSUs from each brand that are well priced atm. If it were up to me, I'd choose the Bitfenix Formula Gold, but any will do.

EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 550 W 80+ Gold

BitFenix - Formula Gold 550 W 80+ Gold
Antec - Earthwatts Gold Pro 650 W 80+

Corsair - TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold

Corsair - RMx (2018) 550 W 80+ Gold

I appreciate your effort but I think 450w is best for me considering I only plan to use a i5-9400f and rtx 2060

Everything is overpriced in Australia. It's the nature of living on an island

Not even that, I don't think there's a single country in which EVGA doesn't have a better competitor for the price on all of their PSUs. For example the RMx 550W is superior to the G3 550W and costs less in Australia.

I can't give an answer for that. Vote with your dollar.
