So i was trying to install a mod for minecraft and stupidly i installed part of the mod from this really dodgy looking website. The publisher was verified though, it was just some guys name.

Now, whenever I open chrome, I get this webpage open in a new tab beside my google home page : http://websearch.toolksearchbook.info/?pid=1675&r=2014/01/25&hid=2468954846743014428&lg=EN&cc=GB&unqvl=46   EDIT: Its like a new home page with some weird search bar, if you dont wana click on it)

I have removed all unknown toolbar extensions, and re installed chrome, and it won't go away.

It was also set as my home page on internet explorer..

I have tried uninstalling everything to do with the mod from control panel but the problem remains. I have done a virus scan sith security essentials to no avail.

Help please!

I'll make a list in pictures and written down, whichever you prefer.

1. Open Chrome.
2. Click your setting thingy under the X (to close it) so you get alot of options.
3. Click ''Options''
4. find the ''Start up''
5. click the ''Choose sites'' or whatever it says so you can pick to start up on whichever page you want
6. Change it to Google.com (Or any other you want it to come up as)

1. http://prntscr.com/2mkpet
2. http://prntscr.com/2mkpjq
3. http://prntscr.com/2mkpo3
4. http://prntscr.com/2mkpr0
Done :)

Just change your home page on IE back to google

I second that, do it and you' should have it fixed.

I've had this, and some 'Delta Search' thing before. All I did was either re-install Chrome, or do as I posted on here. :o

Maybe yours works too, idk.

I have set the only web page to be google on startup and it seems to have fixed it, however I am going to download malwarebytes and scan because it made me uneasy how the extension would simply not go away. Does anyone think it was/is a virus?

It's not a virus, it's just a browser extension that's really hard to get rid of.

I did a full scan using malwarebytes last night and it found 13 viruses, and I think they all had something to do with the mod, but I deleted them and apparently there are no others, anything else I should do to be sure?

Are you running an active anti-virus program? If not download and install one like AVG free.

Run MalwareBytes regularly. It is not a virus checker in the classic sense and will find things not caught by something like AVG, and vice-versa.

So does malwarebytes not have real time protection? As in it only looks for viruses if i make it do a scan?

I believe one needs the paid version for real time protection. But MalwareBytes is not a virus checker. It checks and repairs items not caught by conventional virus checkers.
