Changing ISP/ package is this good?

After looking at my current package, I have 58-73 Mbps download and 17mbps upload. With the main use of the internet being games/ watching videos, would it be good to change to a 108mbps download 6mbps upload plan for a similar price?

Stick with what u have as u have a larger upload speed.

If you currently have enough bandwidth then shopping around based on bandwidth is the worst idea. The only time you look at upgrading your bandwidth is if you're hitting your limit. The main reasons to shop around for a new ISP are:

 

1) Quality (i.e. latency, packet loss, routing, uptime, etc...)

2) Price

3) Support

4) Hardware (kinda goes with quality but I always go with the ISP that lets me use my own router).

5) Technology (i.e. IPv6, Fiber, etc...)

Im in the Uk, so my choice of supplier are basically Virgin or BT. I have a 12 month contract with a cheaper price (with bt) However i noticed that the price would go up after that point and was thinking of switching at the end of the contract. What makes it such a bad idea to switch? I would be getting a connection that better suits my needs with virgin for the same price.

In my experience you shouldn't change ISPs if you're happy with your current one, it's just a risk I'm not willing to take. You're welcome to give it a try but weigh in all of the factors, not just bandwidth because if 58Mbps is working for you and your not hitting the limit then 108Mbps isn't going to improve anything.

It just feels like a waste- because i would probably notice the new speed (at least when im downloading updates, maybe twitch and youtube as well) But i don't upload large files, stream etc so the upload speed is really unnecessary for me

I'm with Virgin, and in the contract it says the pay goes up after like 9 months or whatever, when the time came too it I just told them I wouldn't pay them anymore or I'd change provider so they just kept the price the same. This might be useful information idk.

Just keep in mind that 8 Megabits are 1 Megabyte so you would go from uploading at 2.125 megabytes/second to 0.75 megabytes/second
