Hey I'm in need of some parts for my dad's computer.

I need a small case with 2 or 3 bays (mini-itx)

a processor

a motherboard

a cpu cooler

memory

Have a gtx 9800 gt to slap in.

Its not going to be used for gaming, just Microsoft office and browsing.

Going to be using websites like amazon.co.uk, scan.co.uk and overclockers.co.uk

No budget, but not over the top, as its not for gaming.

Thanks!

Is the AMD Athlon II X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor really the best option?

Not too familiar with AMD cpu's....

Thanks for all the responses!

PS: I have storage, optical drives and powersupply sorted.

Thanks for that, however the case is no good because he needs at least 2 bays.

Guess the only option is really the fractal 1000.

h61 chipset is sooooo limited compared to fm2+ ones, but he needs optical so node doesnt work either, look into htpc cases maybe idk. core 1000 is good budget choice too.

He said he has optical

PS: I have storage, optical drives and powersupply sorted.

h61 doesnt even have usb3 and im pretty sure that i3 doesnt outperform 760k either.

oh k^^ well still if he is using the pc for word and internet, no need to have all the newest fancy stuff... the only usb that i would even consider for this other than 2, would be 3.1 when it comes, solely because of the JIGGAWATT power it can provide

Thanks all of you.

Decided on the fractal 1000, AMD Athlon II X4 760K black edition (will use the stock cooler) and the MSI FM2-A75IA-E53, seems good.

As far as ram goes, will it be beneficial to get 2x4gb sticks instead of 2x2gb? maybe the Kingston HyperX Blue 8Gb or similar?

Ok thanks, cant really find any 1600MHz/CL9 kit's online (cheap ones :D, all like £60)

Price is around £220 in the end, which is decent enough.

Also gives me someone else to build yey!

well then check the CL10 ones, this is the official JEDEC standard, but everyone uses CL9 these days. or even look into 1333MHz/cl9-8. i have them in my general use pc and they dont make anything slower

What would be a decent motherboard if he wanted mATX motherboard instead?
