So, I have been looking for a NAS for about a year for my home enterprise office.

Currently all my drives are in my heavy duty desktop system and it works fine but not exactly ideal, right?

I think I am looking for at least a 6 bay drive with 10GbE option and good software options. I will be only connecting from within the home LAN and using it primarily and 99% purely as a backup system with JBOD. I'll be using Acronis backup and recovery and just telling it to dump the backups on the NAS share.

What NAS do you recommend that is:

- quiet. VERY quiet if possible

- less than $1000

- Fast for data transfer (to read and write especially if I need to restore my system over the NAS)

- has 10GbE

- diskless.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. I keep reading and hearing about Synology but also had read some bad reviews where the tech support has been awful even for the most basics of things.

What 10gbe standard?

Do you want rackmount?

I have deployed a synology or two and they work well, haven't had to deal with support though.

Anouther option is to just build your own. You can put it all in a case like a node 304 and put freenas or anouther os on it.

Thanks all.

For me - not rackmount if it can be avoided. I also prefer WD drives if possible.

as for the 10GbE - I guess RJ45 to the router (if that is what you mean by what standard)
